When you use electricity, it makes an impact, or demand, on the energy grid. Your demand will be the largest amount of energy you use in any given 15-minute interval each month, which will be reflected on your bill. Spreading energy use out over time will create lower demand.

Off-peak kilowatt-hours is a measurement of energy which is the use of power during specified off-peak times of either the summer or winter period. Energy used during this low demand period is offered at a reduced cost to encourage members to shift the majority of their energy use out of periods of high demand.

On-peak kilowatt-hours is a measurement of energy which is the use of power during specified on-peak times of either the summer or winter period. Energy used during this period of high demand will cost more than the standard rate. Shifting electricity use to off-peak times allows your electric cooperative to operate more efficiently and reduces your electricity costs.
